United Methodist Men (UMM) is a chartered organization within our
church that provides an opportunity for fellowship for all men of the
church. Meetings are held the third Monday of each month. A typical
meeting involves time of sharing joys, concerns, and prayer needs as
well as plans for service to Windsor Hills (currently done over dinner
at the great 611 Steak House off Franklin Rd). Men of
all ages are welcome...the more men, the more we can accomplish!
For more information or a ride, call Ken Briggs (342-7000), Ira Chaffin
(389-4594), or Jim Crowgey (774-2520)
Meetings:
The United Methodist Men meet at 6:00 PM at the Great 611 Steakhouse.
Next meeting: Monday, June 21st The speaker for the June 21 meeting of the UMM will be Dr. Rob Willingham who will deliver a program on the Origin and Rise of Islam. It would be hard to imagine a more compelling and timely subject than that!
Today we find ourselves engaged in a continuing worldwide conflict
between the Christian and Muslim religions that dates back to the origin
of the Muslim calendar in 622 AD when the prophet Muhammad made his
historic visit to Mecca. The Biblical teachings of Jesus
regarding salvation of non-believers through faith in the unconditional
love of a kind and forgiving Lord seem diametrically opposed to those
expounded by Muhammad in the Qur'an, where failure of persuasion to
bring infidels to accept the harsh and demanding God of Islam
justifies jihad, holy war. Undoubtedly one of the most troubling
practices of the Muslim faith to modern day Christians is the treatment
of women as inferiors to men in almost every phase of life. As
Christians, we are all anxious to learn more about how to peacefully
coexist in the world today without yielding to such an intractable
adversary.
All women of the church are invited to join us for fun, fellowship and the support of local missions. We meet on the third Monday of every month at 7 PM either at a member’s home or in the church parlor. For further information please contact Gail Johnson @ 989-8445 or Kris Stutsman @ 375-0392, our co-chairs for this year.
Monday June 21st Meeting - Meet at Montanos for dinner at 6:30.
Pathfinder's Sunday School Class
Have you ever wondered why we Christians do what we do for church
every Sunday morning? Why do we “dress up” for church? Why does the
pastor preach a sermon each week? Why do we have pews, steeples, choirs
and seminaries? You might be surprised to discover that many cherished
church traditions did not come from scripture.
In Pagan Christianity? George Barna and Frank Viola explore these and
other questions to help us identify where many of our current church
practices originated. The Pathfinders Class will be using this book for
8 weeks during the Sunday School time, Sunday mornings 10 to 10:45 a.m.
If you are interested in joining us, please come to Room #9, in the
lower level of the church on Sunday, May 2. Books are provided. If you
have any questions about the class, call Craig Kidd 772-4886 or Mark
Fisher 772-0984.
Sojourner’s Sunday School Class
The Sojourner’s Sunday School Class will be beginning a new study on
February 28th entitled:
MODERN PARABLES - Living in the Kingdom of God. This is a 12 week Bible
Study Curriculum that transforms the way people see Jesus’ parables.
Each session will include a DVD presentation of approximately 15
minutes, followed by discussions from class members and led by various
teachers on a rotating basis. We invite all members of the class to
participate in this exciting study as we journey through Lent and post
Easter Sundays.
We especially invite those who are not active in a Sunday school class
to join us as we gain insight into the connection between the parables
and our daily struggle with our faith in this modern world.
